Main Goals of SODAPOJ
The aims and objectives of the Association
are:
v
To
build a stronger and more closely connected network of educated
indigenous journalists and editors;
v
To
stimulate more and better coverage of a range of critically
important issues;
v
To
encourage addition or expansion of environmental reporting
positions within broadcast, print, and internet news
organizations;
v
To
foster the creation of important new information resources and
training
opportunities.
v
To encourage and
support the study and practice of journalism
v
To uphold
and improve professionalism and to promote high standards of
journalistic education.
v
To
maintain constant vigilance in protection of the First Amendment
guarantees of freedom of speech and of the press.
v
To
foster excellence among journalists.
v
To
encourage a climate in which journalism can be practiced freely.
v
To improve the social
and working conditions of Somali journalists, and to encourage and
support Somali Journalist Victims.
v
To promote the social
role of journalists and the profession of journalism, particularly
its contribution to democracy and freedom;
v
To
encourage the provision of professional and trade union education
and training for journalists;
v
To
co-ordinate action to ensure the safety of journalists;
v
To help Somali
journalists ensure the respect of their profession
through joint efforts.
v
To protect and
strengthen the rights and freedoms of Somali journalists.
v
To
clarify standards and principles in journalism by bringing
journalists together to discuss their craft, its purpose and what
sets it apart from other forms of communication.
v
To establish contacts between Somali journalists
and their counterpart associations, as well as organizations
engaged in similar professions.
v
To promote
and
maintain editorial democracy
of
expression in Somalia.
v
To Protect and ensure the respect of organizational
interest and benefits of members, ensure the respect of the human
and democratic rights of members, ensure the well being and
development of free press.

Our objectives are based on relevance, development
of knowledge, protecting the culture of democracy, and promoting
human rights.
